In 2012, a community activist, Chicago theatre producer and President Obama become unexpectedly connected to the sudden death of a well-known, right-wing conspiracist. In Andrew Breitbart’s blog, posted after his sudden death, he wrote about the 1998 production “The Love Song of Saul Alinsky.” During that show’s run, Terrapin Theatre invited a variety of Chicagoans, like Studs Terkel and then State Senator Barack Obama, to be on post show panels to discuss grassroots community activism. Breitbart’s final post launched a mutating attempt to derail Obama’s reelection campaign. Breibart News accused the President of being a communist and Terrapin’s producer of killing their founder.

This unbelievable true story is told in her own words. Terrapin Theatre producer Pam Dickler confesses all in her one woman show. Dickler promises to tell the facts and the truth in her theatrical memoir. She reflects on her career as an actor, director, producer, and accused murderer. Her tell-all is smart with a thick layer of snark.

Dickler shares seemingly random professional highlights… playing Ruth Greenglass in a reenactment of the Rosenberg trials, running into -literally- Edith Stapleton and Orson Bean and misspelling an important historical figure’s name on a poster. The personal storytelling is spliced between thought-provoking quotes read by audience members. Although the content delivery feels arbitrary, Dickler cleverly ties it  together in her own conspiracy deconstruction. She gets to say what we all want to say… right wingers are nonsensical, social media escalates the divisiveness and this administration is a cancer that needs to be cut off, burned up or disgorged.        

The only part of I KILLED ANDY BREITBART I don’t believe was when Dickler said, ‘I’ve been told I don’t make a good first impression.’ This was my first time seeing her onstage and I was very impressed. This political satire is fascinating.
