IMG_0016It’s Father’s Day!

It’s the perfect day to reflect on the wonderful qualities of men.  Although I’m currently not dating anyone, I am blessed with abundant men in my life.  I have a lot of guy friends.  I grew up with three sisters, no brothers.  The major male influence in my life is my dad.  I love women but we tend to be dramatic, emotional and needy.  We analyze every aspect of a relationship.  We are constantly trying to take care and improve ourselves and our loved ones.  As a gender, we are exhausting.

Sometimes a gal wants to just hang with a guy because it’s simpler.  As a gender, they are low maintenance.  I pick my guy friends based on what I love about my dad.   Here’s my favorite things about my men…

  1. Gentlemen:  I’m as feminist as they come but I do enjoy courtesy to my gender.  I love a man holding open a door, offering up their seat on a bus, or holding back in the elevator to let the lady pass.  I mean men are still ruling the world so they owe us that.
  2. Steadiness:  After a rough meeting, a horrible day, a bad year, it’s nice to sit in the company of a guy.  Mine have a calmness.  I can be whirling in my sea of chaos and they anchor me.
  3. Non-talking: I was going to say listening but I’m not always sure they are.  😉  When I’m jabbering up a storm, they let me.  And most times, they succinctly assess the situation with one well targeted, thought-provoking response.
  4. Humor:  They like to tease out the lighter side.  They tone down the serious with a joke or five.
  5. Providers:  Whereas women are nurturers, men are providers.  For me, my guys are wonderful role models of fiscal responsibility. They focus on providing for their retirement, partners and/or families.
  6. Competitive:  They like competition in careers, in sports, in life.  It spurs my inner contender.  And sometimes, I too want to be the best.  Or more often, I enjoy watching them striving to be optimal in whatever arena. I love cheerleading people to their personal victories.

Here’s to the men I love, slainte!  And to my #1 guy, Happy Father’s Day, dad!
