Change? Yes Please!

get-attachmentI’m finishing up Amy Poehler’s “Yes Please!” on my seaside holiday.  Her nuggets of wisdom are even more thought-provoking when contemplated with an amazing view.

Change is the only constant.  Your ability to navigate and

tolerate change and its painful uncomfortableness directly

Nothing stays the same.  I love that about life.  Christmas Eve in Myrtle Beach was continuous storms.  It poured and poured.  At one point, the sky looked promising so I took Trixie on a walk.  I got drenched. Throughout the day, it only stopped raining for brief interludes.

Christmas Day started cloudy and crisp and then the sun came out.  And the rain was forgotten.

If it was sunny all the time, I wouldn’t appreciate it.  The absence of the sun or getting soaked by a passing storm is what makes the sunrise even more spectacular.  It signals a new day to start again. It’s that change that reminds me things are temporary.  I might be tired, cranky, hungry, achy… but there is a remedy for all of it.  I just have to make the adjustment.

I’m genetically wired to be upbeat.  I have an adventurous spirit.  I stepped out of a plane with only a parachute and a hot guy strapped to my back.  I don’t always have to be in control is a lesson I constantly try to remember. And I love change and change of life’s tempo.  Life is a dance that can be synchronized to perfection or just a frenzy of flailing body parts.  Whatever the music, I like to be on the dance floor.

All conditions…good or bad… are passing. Today’s sunrise was spectacular.  Tomorrow’s might not be as good but there is the hope for a new sunrise.
